In the year of 2009, a new set of design trends have been observed and analyzed – recent developments, new design elements and new graphic approaches. I do not know how these trends were made popular to inspire countless designers or how they were listed as top design trends at current, but they definitely make up the overall look and feel of a slick website in terms of aesthetics.

Here are some of my favourites:

Huge Typography
Typeface is an important element of design. They could well define your branding/product. Most HTML texts are now being replaced by images together with gorgeous, interesting fonts. The trick is make the fonts BIGGER to draw the attention of readers to the more important messages of the website.

Modal Boxes
Modal boxes, also known as lightboxes, are the second generation of pop-ups. They serve as an alternative to classic JavaScript windows, again, to prompt users to the most important area of the website such as log-in/sign-up features or more information/bigger picture of the thumbnail version.

Carousels
Carousels are essentially known as slideshow navigations, in which the content rotates either horizontally or vertically, usually by the toggle between up/down/left/right arrow buttons. This feature allows users to scan and skip through the available content without having much movement such as scrolling. In return, it saves more time as it focus sharply on the content instead of interacting with the browser.
