Google Is Gearing Up For 2010 Search
Gino Carpio
Back in August 2009, Google announced “Google Caffeine”. Google Caffeine promises to be faster, more accurate and relevant in providing search results. Google will not change the front page interface of www.google.com but they are working on improving the Web Search (Results) architecture. I will discuss some of the changes I noticed that Google has made so far.
1. Drilling Down Search Result
On November 17 2009, Google Blog posted an article welcoming the new site hierarchies on the display search result: Google Breadcrumbs as what SEO practitioners called it. The new site structure affects the display URL of Organic Search. Users will be able to see the Site Structure that the link falls into. Google seems to be trying to make their search resultsbe more specific and detailed.
My Conclusion:
This feature helps webmaster and users and would have significant impact on “large websites” [ example: eCommerce websites]. Seeing that Google would not be able to displaying the structure of your website, it is time to clean up the “messy-looking-site-architecture”. Improving site architecture means getting your site crawled faster! WebProNews posted a article on: Tips for Site Architecture
2. Revamping the SERP
Google is now testing a new interface on their Search Engine Results Page (SERP). There are enhancements to the Search Option Feature. Search Option is a link found on the search result page that says “show options”. The aim of revamping the SERP is to provide Google users a clean display.
My opinion is that the new feature is almost same as Bings SERP feature which is named as “Related searches” – also found on the left side of Bing’s SERP.
My Conclusion:
Competition between Google and Bing helps bring continual improvements to users. This is one “arms race” that is beneficial. Let us watch when else Google has in store for us this coming new year.
