Intern’s Day Out!
Faye Foo
When the boss asked if I would like to attend a Social Media Talk presented by University of Adelaide- Singapore, I almost couldn’t contain my excitement! It was, after all, my first outing out of the office, with the boss, on official business!
(yes, it IS official business!!)
Basically, the content covered over the 1.5 hours just reinforces how technology have evolved over the years and how we, as consumers, are embracing these tools in our lives today!
Mary, the guest speaker, highlighted how news were pushed to us through social channels much faster than that of mainstream media, in the light of the Australian Bush Fire.
So to speak, it is through such mediums, that individuals are able to get reunited with one another across the globe and more importantly, social media have thus become a portal for the young and old to voice their ideas, to reinforce their sense of worth and identity.
Long gone are the days where social media were deemed unreliable; because the power of the web today is highly regarded as one of the world’s fastest info-sharing mediums! – and the onus is on us to embrace or ignore it!
To sum things up, social media can be ideally used as a tool to reach and influence the masses in a shorter time span as compared to traditional mainstream media. Bearing in mind that more and more organizations today are already utilizing such facilities to gain competitive advantages within those in their industry, I personally believe you should jump on the bandwagon too! (if you haven’t already!)
