New Google Analytics Tracking Code Setup Wizard

Dread the times where you have to implement tracking of multiple sub-domains and do cross-domain tracking for your campaigns on Google Analytics? Imagine the time spent on manually configuring your tracking codes for the different situations you have, which could have been used to analyse the data trends instead!
Following Jeff’s introduction on Annotations, we will touch on the next new feature that is available on Google Analytics: Tracking Code Setup Wizard.
This Wizard will be available when you create a profile for the campaign that you wish to track. You will now see that there are three tabs for you to choose from (Standard, Advanced, Custom)
Standard – Tracking codes are automatically created for you when you select the different radio buttons for your single domain, one domain with multiple subdomains or multiple top-level domains.
Advanced – It will guide you through if you are mapping your own campaign variables onto Google Analytics and also dynamic content or PHP pages. If you have a site for mobile phones, select the server language you have on the site (php, jsp or aspx) and cut and paste the codes accordingly onto the site.
Custom – You can edit and customise your codes under this tab.

This eliminates the hassle of browsing through your Google Analytics help centre articles for the tracking codes and simplifies the steps for you to complete the installation of the codes.
In addition, if you are having problems with the traditional tracking codes, be it delay in web page loading time, inaccurate data collection or tracking errors, you might also wish to try out the new released asynchronous tracking code here. Read more here.
According to Google, some of the benefits of the new asynchronous tracking code include:
- Faster tracking code load times for your web pages due to improved browser execution
- Enhanced data collection and accuracy
- Elimination of tracking errors from dependencies when the JavaScript hasn’t fully loaded
For analysts out there who are not trained in programming like me, installation of codes on the sites can be quite daunting at times. It is also crucial for codes to be installed correctly to minimise data tracking errors. Try this new feature and start loving it!
